Machinist

General Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to produce high quality shearing, sawing, and burning on the appropriate equipment for The Standard Steel Companies.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities for Shearing & Sawing:

• Shear / saw metal material to specifications.
• Ensure the steel sheared / sawed is consistent with the specifications given on the written instructions.
• Ensure the quality of work meets or exceeds The Steel Yard’s standards.
• Ensure the safety, security, and cleanliness of the working area.
• Ensure that delays and problems promptly get reported to the Yard Foreman.
• Ensure all safety equipment on machines is in place and operating properly.
• Provide productivity reports to the Yard Foreman daily.
• Maintain the schedule given by the Yard Foreman.
• Assist customers in loading their vehicles with sheared / sawed material.
• Clean the shearing/ sawed machine and keep it wiped down and blown off.
• Operate the hoist in a safe manner.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities for Burning:

• Ensure the steel burned is consistent with the specifications given on the written and software instructions.
• Ensure work output is at or above The Steel Yard’s quotas.
• Ensure the quality of work meets or exceeds The Steel Yard’s standards.
• Ensure the safety, security, and cleanliness of the working area.
• Ensure that productivity delays and problems are promptly reported to the Pre-Processing Manager.
• Ensure all safety equipment on machines operate properly
